How to care for your cylindrical Sansevieria

Our guidelines for helping it grow healthy and strong

Cylindrical Sansevieria, also known as "African spear" or "snake plant cylindrica", is a rhizomatous perennial succulent native to tropical Africa. At our nursery, we chose it for its elegance and resilience, making it ideal for anyone who wants a touch of greenery without too much effort. Its slender, cylindrical leaves make it a unique decorative feature.

The right location

Cylindrical Sansevieria loves bright light and can even tolerate full sun. It is particularly suited to bright locations, where it can best display its beauty. If possible, place it near a well-lit window.

When and how to water it

When it comes to watering, it is important to wait until the compost is completely dry before proceeding. During winter, watering should be almost nonexistent unless the environment is very warm. Remember that excess water can damage it, so it is better to err on the side of underwatering.

Temperature and humidity

Cylindrical Sansevieria thrives in a temperature range between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius. It does not require high humidity, so it also adapts well to drier environments.

The right fertilizer

From April to September, we recommend fertilizing your cylindrical snake plant every 30 days. Use a liquid fertilizer for green plants or cacti to support its growth.

The pot and soil

For the substrate, choose a peat-free cactus compost with good drainage. A mix of 2 parts compost and 1 part grit will be perfect for giving the plant the right balance of nutrients and drainage.

How to propagate it

The cylindrical snake plant can be easily propagated in spring through offshoots, division, or leaf cuttings. Keep in mind that cuttings from variegated forms may revert to green.

Our final tip

The cylindrical snake plant is a low-maintenance plant that brings great satisfaction. Remember not to overwater it and to place it in a bright spot. With this simple care, your plant will always be lush and healthy.
